If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences. – Thomas theorem

Of Alices and Cheshire Cats

As it seems to be the case with most children, I used to think of my parents as people who were always just and understanding, rarely made any mistakes and could under any circumstances discern between right and wrong. Then, as time went by and I became more of a grown up, this idealized concept I had gradually disintegrated into a more realistic image of my mother and father. Parents are not a matter of preference, so it’s not overly important if you like how they really are or not. After all, it’s all about how reality works and coming to terms with it is mostly unavoidable. But what makes some aspects of reality especially hard to deal with, is that they’re neither black, nor white, but grayish and rather blurry. So, it turns out there’s no ultimate coping strategy for dealing with uncertainty other than embracing it.

Yet again, as Alice put it, I give myself very good advice, but very seldom follow it.
